Senate Panel Defies Bush on Detainee Bill - New York Times

Senate Panel Defies Bush on Detainee Bill - New York Times: "As part of his plan, the president wants Congress to enact legislation that would authorize tougher interrogations of suspected terrorists.

And that is what Congress must not do, said Colin L. Powell, the former secretary of state. “The world is beginning to doubt the moral basis of our fight against terrorism,” Mr. Powell said in a letter to Senator John McCain of Arizona, one of the Republicans who differ with Mr. Bush’s policies."

... look who's finally seeing the light!

Radiofree West Hartford - Islamizing our Schools by Hans Zeiger

Radiofree West Hartford - Islamizing our Schools by Hans Zeiger: "In many California schools, middle school students are required to take a three-week course in which students adopt a Muslim name, wear a robe, learn the fundamental tenets of Islam, and stage their own Jihad. According to ASSIST News Service, students must learn to pray 'in the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful,' and they must chant, 'Praise to Allah, Lord of Creation.' For nearly a month, young and vulnerable minds are saturated with a curriculum of Arabic phrases, Koran verses, and proverbs.

Students cannot say 'one nation under God' in the Pledge of Allegiance, but they can shout prayers and praises to Allah. The name of Jesus in a public school - spoken reverently - is thought of with greater disdain by politically correct educators than is the name of Jesus taken in vain. But the name and life of Mohammed is thoroughly drilled into students' minds.
And teachers are being trained to teach - and preach - Islam."

Well, well! It's not hard to see who's winnig the war or is it??? Allah Akubar!

The Blog | Cenk Uygur: Vicious Muslims and the Americans Who Help Them | The Huffington Post: "What drives me crazy is that I so badly want to defeat these Muslim extremists - and Bush keeps playing right into their hands. He is so painfully stupid. When he invaded Iraq, he justified all the ridiculous sloganeering of the Muslim radicals. They said America hated all Muslims. Then we invaded a Muslim country that had nothing to do with the people that attacked us - and proved Osama bin Laden right!

Then Bush helped their terror campaign by terrorizing the population here in America with his constant fear mongering for political reasons. We were told that if we didn't give up our freedoms and our way of life, the terrorists would win. No, you idiot, they win if we do give up our freedoms and our way of life."

This piece should have been titled 'Islamizing the West'.

9/11/06 - New York Times

9/11/06 - New York Times: "It was a time when the nation was waiting to find out what it was supposed to do, to be called to the task that would give special lasting meaning to the tragedy that it had endured.

But the call never came. Without ever having asked to be exempt from the demands of this new post-9/11 war, we were cut out. Everything would be paid for with the blood of other people’s children, and with money earned by the next generation. Our role appeared to be confined to waiting in longer lines at the airport. President Bush, searching the other day for an example of post-9/11 sacrifice, pointed out that everybody pays taxes."

To put it simply, we all need to get together and sort this mess out. Did someone just say, easier said than done? Maybe, but i tell you, saying is a first step in the right direction.

Morgan Reynolds' Encumbered Case for Controlled Demolition

Morgan Reynolds' Encumbered Case for Controlled Demolition: "The government never produced a jet engine yet claimed it recovered the passport of alleged hijacker Satam al Suqami unharmed by a fiery crash and catastrophic collapse of the North Tower. The government has not produced voice (CVR) or flight data recorders (FDR) in the New York attack either, so-called black boxes, a fact unprecedented in the aviation history of major domestic crashes."

Osama bin Laden - a dead nemesis perpetuated by the US government

Osama bin Laden is dead!: "The Central Intelligence Agency has closed a unit that for a decade had the mission of hunting Osama bin Laden and his top lieutenants, intelligence officials confirmed Monday. The unit, known as Alec Station, was disbanded late last year and its analysts reassigned within the C.I.A. Counterterrorist Center, the officials said. [New York Times 07/03/06]"

Softening Us Up for Torture, 24 Hours at a Time by Dave Trotter

Softening Us Up for Torture, 24 Hours at a Time by Dave Trotter: "Duncan Campbell explains in The Guardian:

Hollywood film-makers have frequently changed plot lines, altered history and amended scripts at the request of the Pentagon, according to recently released military documents. Producers and directors have often agreed to changes in order to gain access to expensive military hardware or to be able to film on military property.

On many occasions films have been changed so that the US armed forces are shown in a more heroic fashion. Film companies agree to the changes because doing so saves them millions in production costs. If film-makers do not agree to alterations, assistance is withheld.

Among films that have been given approval and help by the Pentagon are Armageddon, Air Force One, The Jackal, Pearl Harbor and Top Gun. Those that have failed the test include Forrest Gump, Mars Attacks!, The Thin Red Line, Apocalypse Now, Sgt Bilko, Platoon and Independence Day."

And that's a wrap! The more you see, the less you know.

The Pro-War Media's Re-Positioning Problem by Gary North

The Pro-War Media's Re-Positioning Problem by Gary North: "But for Fox News and the cheerleaders, this is a defeat. They ran up their ratings with pro-war rhetoric. Now they find that this rhetoric is about as safe as a tour bus in Baghdad.

If a Republican wins in 2008, and the pull-out begins in 2009, it will be a nightmare for the Foxes of this world. They will not be able to blame a Democrat for cutting and running. They will have to swallow the castor oil of a military pull-back. And, as it goes through their system, doing what castor oil does to the intestinal track, they will have to stand at attention in full public view as the flag goes by – away from Iraq. It will be a long parade. Think of the pain! Think of the squirming!"

And surely, gung-ho's flip-flop will not lead to the balming that is Gunga Din but only to the tragedies of the suicide bomber.

A Democratic Dictatorship by Jacob G. Hornberger

A Democratic Dictatorship by Jacob G. Hornberger: "Of course, there are those who say, “The situation is not really that serious. President Bush is a good man. He can be trusted to do the right thing. He won’t abuse these powers. He’s exercised them against only a few Americans.”

They’re missing some important points. One is that no matter how good a man President Bush is, dictatorships are the opposite of liberty and, therefore, are morally wrong, no matter how good or benevolent the dictator is. Moreover, once dictatorial powers are relinquished to a “good man,” there is no assurance that he won’t become a bad man or that a bad man will not succeed him. A good test is: Would I want the most despicable character I can think of – say, Adolf Hitler, Joseph Stalin, or Mao Zedong – to have any of these powers over me and my country? If your answer is “No,” then your answer should be the same with respect to George W. Bush."

And that, my friends, is the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth, period.

The Blog | Rep. Jim McDermott: Be Afraid | The Huffington Post

The Blog | Rep. Jim McDermott: Be Afraid | The Huffington Post: "For the rest of September, until the moment Republican leaders gavel the Congress into adjournment, Republican speakers will rise and implore the American people to be afraid.

Republicans will call it security, and every time they do, just remember they are speaking in code. Republicans really mean insecurity."

And afraid, i definitely am... for its good people and generations yet to come.

The Blog | Paul Rieckhoff: Adding Insult To Injury | The Huffington Post

Adding Insult To Injury | The Huffington Post: "So according to Ms. Manley, in a bill appropriating more than 400 billion dollars, created to support a war in Iraq that has already cost hundreds of billions of dollars, Congress can't find an extra 7 million dollars to treat troops wounded with brain injuries? That is ridiculous. America's wounded warriors deserve better. And the members of the Senate Appropriations Committee should be ashamed of themselves."

Yikes! After almost half a trillion dollars spent on Iraq's war, Congress and George 'Draft-Dodger' Bush can't find an extra 7 million dollars for brain-damaged troops? America is really getting scary.

Even Now

Why do they hate us?

Why do they hate us?: "In Africa, kids are bent over in the sun from dawn to dusk tilling the earth, not for a dollar but for a dime. These are kids unlike their fathers and forebears who did not have satellite and Internet. That could not afford TV and radio, who could not read and write, trapped in their illiteracy. Today, you don't have to be literate to understand it, it's visual and in panavision for everyone, who is not blind, to see. They see the limos and ask: how many people sit in that thing? You tell them between eight and ten, so why are there only two guys in it? You think... then emm... well, he's a big shot. So?! He sits in the space for ten to show it? Are you serious?! But it's true. And they just crack up and say America is crazy. That kind of stuff is simply un-African. And I haven't even told them yet all that Gotti food and sweat is going into the trash can!

Why do they hate us, why do we hate them? Who knows, your guess is as good as mine. But who needs to know, who cares?"

Dick Cheney’s Song of America

Dick Cheney’s Song of America: "In early 1992, as Powell and Cheney campaigned to win congressional support for their augmented Base Force plan, a new logic entered into their appeals. The United States, Powell told members of the House Armed Services Committee, required “sufficient power” to “deter any challenger from ever dreaming of challenging us on the world stage.” To emphasize the point, he cast the United States in the role of street thug. “I want to be the bully on the block,” he said, implanting in the mind of potential opponents that “there is no future in trying to challenge the armed forces of the United States.”"

Wow!

Mad Dog On A Leash

Mad Dog On A Leash: "What are we to think of that? Robertson, God's most vocal confidant, says Palestinians are an abomination -- a contagion for which there is no cure and whose only function is to 'cause trouble for the Israelites, and pull the Israelites away from God, and prevent the truth of God from reaching the Earth.' He explained it was 'more merciful' to kill Palestinians sooner rather than later because if they continue to reproduce, Israel will be burdened with having more to kill in the future. According to Robertson, the only way to look at such mass extinction is, 'God, in love, took away a small number so that He might not have to take away a large number.'"

What have they not said and done in God's name? The above quote is the tsunami of all blasphemies and the out-pouring of a deeply afflicted and diseased mind.

HIV & AIDS - New Study Shows AIDS Drugs Equally Effective as Poverty and Malnutrition

HIV & AIDS - New Study Shows AIDS Drugs Equally Effective as Poverty and Malnutrition: "In fact, this is an understatement. The untreated Ugandans in the above study are actually surviving just as long as their medicated HIV positive counterparts in the developed world, according to data published in the April 1, 2000 issue of The Lancet.(2) This latter study was conducted by the Collaborative Group on AIDS Incubation and HIV Survival Group (Collaborative Group) which analyzed data from 13,030 individuals with known dates of seroconversion from Europe, North America, and Australia to estimate time from seroconversion to AIDS and death."

I'm having a headache here; can anybody help sort this out? What's going on here?

HIV & AIDS - VirusMyth AIDS HomePage

HIV and AIDS: "'If there is evidence that HIV causes AIDS, there should be scientific documents which either singly or collectively demonstrate that fact, at least with a high probability. There is no such document.'
Dr. Kary Mullis, Biochemist, 1993 Nobel Prize for Chemistry.

'Up to today there is actually no single scientifically really convincing evidence for the existence of HIV. Not even once such a retrovirus has been isolated and purified by the methods of classical virology.'
Dr. Heinz Ludwig Sänger, Emeritus Professor of Molecular Biology and Virology, Max-Planck-Institutes for Biochemy, München."

HIV, it is claimed, is a retrovirus, which means that it converts its RNA genome into DNA in the cell. It does this using the enzyme reverse transcriptase. The DNA version of the viral genome enters the nucleus of the cell where it integrates (joins) with the DNA of the host cell. New RNA instructions and RNA genomes leave the nucleus. The RNA instructions (viral messenger RNA) direct the cell to produce viral proteins. These viral proteins and the viral genomic RNA assemble into new virus particles near the cell surface. These push out the cell surface (plasma membrane) and bud from the cell. As they bud, the virus particles become cloaked in cell membrane and so are known as enveloped viruses. The released virus particles can now land and dock with other cells that have the appropriate receptors on their plasma membranes. When an HIV particle lands on a suitable cell, its envelope joins the plasma membrane of the cell. The matrix proteins and the viral core are thrust into the interior (cytoplasm) of the cell and the viral RNA is transcribed into viral DNA and so the life cycle repeats.

The Islamic Way of War

The Islamic Way of War: "What the Islamic Way of War does mean to both Israel and to the United States is this: the Arabs now possess—and know that they possess—the capacity to deny us victory, especially in any altercation that occurs on their own turf and among their own people. To put it another way, neither Israel nor the United States today possesses anything like the military muscle needed to impose its will on the various governments, nation-states, factions, and political movements that comprise our list of enemies. For politicians in Jerusalem or Washington to persist in pretending otherwise is the sheerest folly.

It’s time for Americans to recognize that the enterprise that some neoconservatives refer to as World War IV is unwinnable in a strictly military sense. Indeed, it’s past time to re-examine the post-Cold War assumption that military power provides the preferred antidote to any and all complaints that we have with the world beyond our borders."

Hello? Is anyone listening?

Democracy Now! | Total Information Awareness Lives On Inside the National Security Agency

Total Information Awareness Lives On Inside the National Security Agency: "'If the Homeland Security Act is not amended before passage, here is what will happen to you:

'Every purchase you make with a credit card, every magazine subscription you buy and medical prescription you fill, every Web site you visit and e-mail you send or receive, every academic grade you receive, every bank deposit you make, every trip you book and every event you attend -- all these transactions and communications will go into what the Defense Department describes as 'a virtual, centralized grand database.'

'To this computerized dossier on your private life from commercial sources, add every piece of information that government has about you -- passport application, driver's license and bridge toll records, judicial and divorce records, complaints from nosy neighbors to the F.B.I., your lifetime paper trail plus the latest hidden camera surveillance -- and you have the supersnoop's dream: a 'Total Information Awareness' about every U.S. citizen."

ECHELON is a term associated with a global network of computers that automatically search through millions of intercepted messages for pre-programmed keywords or fax, telex and e-mail addresses. Every word of every message in the frequencies and channels selected at a station is automatically searched. The processors in the network are known as the ECHELON Dictionaries. ECHELON connects all these computers and allows the individual stations to function as distributed elements an integrated system. An ECHELON station's Dictionary contains not only its parent agency's chosen keywords, but also lists for each of the other four agencies in the UKUSA system [NSA, GCHQ, DSD, GCSB and CSE]
Question; what is the real motive for this extensive data-mining? Political subterfuge, electoral fraud or straight out blackmail compelling Congressional conformity for constitution-hijack; is this man ever going to quit power?

Our Fascism, and Theirs- by Justin Raimondo

Our Fascism, and Theirs- by Justin Raimondo: "The 'red-state fascism' exemplified by the Bushian Republican Party does indeed resemble the classic version in more ways than one: There is the Leader Principle, which gives the presidency nearly as much legal and political weight as the national socialists gave their Führer. There is the creation of a super-centralized surveillance society, in which the civil liberties of individual citizens are liquidated in the interests of 'national security.' And there is, above all, a militantly expansionist foreign policy, a vision of world hegemony founded on conquest and baptized in the blood of innocents.

When the Bushians call bin Laden a 'fascist,' the only proper response is, Look who's talking!

There is a fascist threat to America, all right, but it isn't coming from overseas. It isn't hiding in the caves of Wahhabistan, but lurking in Washington's corridors of power. The same people who warn us of a 'fascist' threat coming from abroad are the main purveyors of authoritarianism on the home front. And that is what life is like in the Bizarro World of America in the year A.D. 2006, where the most militant fascists of all style themselves the leaders of a new 'anti-fascist' popular front."

Methinks he means the one lurking under our beds and in our closets.

When Napoleon Won at Waterloo - by Uri Avnery

When Napoleon Won at Waterloo - by Uri Avnery: "The media called Hezbollah a 'terror organization,' evoking the image of a small group of 'terrorists' with negligible capabilities. When it became clear that this is an efficient and well-trained military force with brave and determined fighters, effective missiles, and other weapons, that could hold out against our huge military machine for 33 days without breaking, the disappointment was even more bitter."

The Muckraker Report spoke with Rex Tomb, Chief of Investigative Publicity for the FBI. When asked why there is no mention of 9/11 on Bin Laden’s Most Wanted web page, Tomb said, “The reason why 9/11 is not mentioned on Usama Bin Laden’s Most Wanted page is because the FBI has no hard evidence connecting Bin Laden to 9/11."

Presidential IQ's

One Presidential Flunky: "Among comments made concerning the specific testing of President G.W. Bush, his low ratings were due to his apparent difficulty to command the English language in public statements, his limited use of vocabulary (6,500 words for Bush versus an average of 11,000 words for other presidents), his lack of scholarly achievements other than a basic MBA, and an absence of any body of work which could be studied on an intellectual basis. The complete report documents the methods and procedures used to arrive at these ratings, including depth of sentence structure and voice stress confidence analysis."

Look who is at the bottom of the class... in a time of war!

Niagara Falls Reporter Opinion

President Bush now claims to be literate: "From the ridiculous claim that Bush is a voracious reader to the laughable suggestion that he had never linked Iraq and Saddam Hussein to the Sept. 11 attacks, this administration treats the American people like they are dumb as rocks.

The president's book-reading binge is one of the biggest howlers the Busheviks have ever tried to foist on a demonstrably gullible public. 'U.S. News & World Report' carried a piece claiming that Bush is 'eager to dispel his image as an intellectual lightweight' and is striving to be known as a 'man of letters.' The magazine reports, 'In fact, Bush has entered a book-reading contest with Karl Rove, his political adviser.' Now a whopper for the ages: 'White House aides say the president has read 60 books so far this year (while the brainy Rove, to Bush's competitive delight, has raked up only 50).'

That is pure crap. Anyone who believes Bush has breezed through 60 volumes of serious literature this year should be eligible for a mental health disability or a Bush Cabinet appointment. I would, however, accept the 60 number as Bush's lifetime count."

It's really hard to disagree with the above but I'm open to alternative views... just find me a believable one.

In the editorial pages of Murdoch's antipodean flagship, The Australian, the bombing of Beirut is presented as 'Israel doing Lebanon a favour' and restive Arabs are described as 'Nazis'. None of this should be surprising, as Murdoch revealed to the Hollywood Reporter that his media ventures are 'not as important to me as spreading my personal political beliefs' (November 23, 2005). 'Hindsight is not wisdom and second-guessing is not strategy,' he said, before insisting for the umpteenth time that America would stay the course no matter what.

Drawing attention away from past blunders may be the only coherent strategy the president has when it comes to the war in Iraq, according to author Peter W. Galbraith."

Goodbye Iraq, Hello Afghanistan By Pepe Escobar: "Baghdad - which accounts for 25% of the country's population - has virtually no water or electricity. The Americans for their part may have become more 'invisible', retreating from main urban centers, but their air war is even more devastating. The White House/Pentagon policy is now a 'back to the future' of turning Iraq into Afghanistan, where warlords, religious or secular, and tribal sheikhs defend their mini-states armed to their teeth, and criminal gangs run parallel to death squads. There isn't a remote possibility of forging a government of national unity under these circumstances.

Which suits Washington fine. The only way for the United States to prolong its Iraqi adventure is to perpetuate chaos; Iraq as the new Afghanistan. Few dispute that the US invaded Iraq for its oil resources, mostly untapped, and that it's located in the heart of the world's energy system. Thus, if the US controls Iraq, it extends its strategic power."
